Developer Who Cloned Photoshop With AI Just Did the Same to Microsoft Office

Developer Brandon Thomas released WordCraft, GridCraft, and DeckCraft - free open-source clones of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint built in Rust with Anthropic's Claude. WordCraft covers 88% of Word's ribbon features and GridCraft handles 513 of Excel's 523 functions, but developers rate them only 50-60% ready for production use. The project follows Thomas' earlier ArtCraft clones of Adobe Creative Cloud apps and directly competes with Microsoft 365's $99.99 annual subscription.
