Latvia eyes crypto tax payments in 2027 as parliament overhauls crypto taxation
Latvia's Finance Ministry agreed to allow residents to pay personal taxes with cryptocurrency as early as 2027, with technical work with a payment provider still underway. Parliament passed legislation on Oct. 15 to tax crypto withdrawals once they exceed deposited amounts rather than each trade, and introduced a one-time declaration process allowing holders to settle past obligations by paying 10% of assets' market value at end of 2026. The moves are part of Latvia's effort to attract crypto firms and investors, though timing may depend on coalition negotiations following the Oct. 3 election.
