Ruling party proposes gov't delay planned taxation of cryptocurrency
South Korea's ruling Democratic Party formally proposed delaying cryptocurrency taxation implementation scheduled for January 1, 2027. The party cited need for businesses and investors to adjust, and wants to first enact a Digital Asset Basic Act to establish a comprehensive framework. This would be the fourth postponement since the taxation scheme was first introduced in 2020; gains over 2.5 million won face a 22% tax rate.
