Solana Sets a Date for Its Next Major Upgrade

Solana's Alpenglow upgrade activates on October 21 at epoch 1064, replacing TowerBFT consensus mechanism with Votor. Transaction finality will drop from 12.8 seconds to approximately 150 milliseconds, with validators voting off-chain instead of on-chain. Vote transactions will no longer appear in blocks, causing Solana's reported transaction counts and TPS to decline despite no change in actual network activity.
